Eye Exams

Expectations from an Eye Exam

An eye exam includes checking a patient’s visual acuity, checking their eye muscles to see if they are straight versus a crooked eye (strabismus), checking their spectacle prescription and determining if it has changed, checking the health of the front and back (retina) of their eyes and communicating to the patient my findings. Dilating drops may be added to view the retina better. It is important to have an eye exam in order to detect disease earlier and also so that a patient sees as well as they possibly can with an updated spectacle prescription.

Contact Lenses

Contact lenses will also be examined assuming they are purchased from our office or for new patients at no extra charge. Your contact lenses will be checked to make sure they are fitting properly, that they are clean, that they are not damaging your eyes and the prescription is correct.

Frequency of Eye Exams

Healthy adults between 20-64 years should have a comprehensive eye exam every 2 years and children, seniors, diabetics and patients with specific eye diseases at least yearly. We can examine children as young as 6 months or earlier if needed.
